Job Requirements

  • Minimum age 18
  • high school diploma or equivalent
  • completion of company orientation
  • food safety and sanitation training upon hire
  • ability to function in a fast-paced retail environment
  • ability to perform detailed and precise tasks
  • physical ability to reach, lift, stand, walk, bend, stoop, squat, kneel, and carry weight according to department demands
  • strong attention to customer needs
  • ability to work with others in a cooperative team environment

Job Duties

  • Provides superior customer service
  • takes orders from customers by telephone or in person
  • answers customer questions regarding products
  • assists them with selections
  • prepares, packages, and merchandises fresh product effectively
  • slices, packages, labels, rotates, and culls products for poor quality
  • assists in technical areas as needed
  • uses suggestive selling techniques and basic product knowledge to meet customer needs and build department sales
  • cleans and sanitizes display cases
  • operates and maintains equipment properly
  • complies with H-E-B food safety and sanitation standards
  • complies with department or store operating procedures
  • records production and shrink to aid in production planning (bakery)
  • takes care of service counter customers (deli)
  • uses ordering system applications (deli)
  • performs inventory management processes as required (deli)
  • ensures catering orders are prepared and ready (deli)
  • performs all sanitation and maintenance tasks for deli slicers
  • serves or packages prepared foods at customer's request
  • educates customers on preparation and reheating instructions
  • prepackages condiments for prepared food items
  • cuts, slices, dices, chops, food in preparation for chef
