Job Description

The Stamford Jewish Community Center (JCC) is a vibrant nonprofit cultural, educational, and recreational organization committed to enriching the mind, body, and spirit of its diverse community. Located at 1035 Newfield Ave, Stamford, CT, the JCC offers a broad range of exceptional programs, classes, and special events focused on cultural enrichment and community engagement. The center is guided by Jewish values such as welcoming guests, kindness, respect, and communal responsibility, yet it warmly embraces individuals of all ages, faiths, ethnicities, and backgrounds. As a cornerstone of the Stamford community, the JCC strives to provide an inviting and safe environment for all its members and guests, making it a place where people come together to learn, grow, and celebrate life.

The Maintenance/Custodian role at the JCC of Stamford is a critical position ensuring the cleanliness, safety, and overall upkeep of the center and its surrounding property. This is a second-shift position including weekend coverage, offering a salary range of $35,000 to $45,000 annually. The incumbent will be responsible for maintaining a clean and attractive environment by performing a wide variety of custodial and maintenance duties. These duties include routine cleaning activities such as mopping, dusting, window washing, trash removal, and recycling, as well as more specialized tasks like pool cleaning, maintaining locker rooms and bathrooms, and seasonal upkeep like lawn care and snow removal. The custodian will also be tasked with setting up and breaking down meeting and event spaces, helping accommodate the dynamic schedule of activities hosted at the JCC.

Beyond cleaning and maintenance, the role requires vigilance for safety and security. The custodian will monitor the facility and outdoor grounds, ensuring that the building is secure and free of hazards like broken equipment or debris. Reporting and recording necessary repairs, performing directed maintenance tasks, and restocking supplies such as soap and paper towels also fall within the scope of this position. This role demands physical capability, as lifting up to 50 pounds is a regular requirement.

Working as a member of the JCC team, the Maintenance/Custodian will contribute directly to the high standard of care and welcoming atmosphere the Community Center is known for. This position offers an opportunity to be part of an organization that values inclusion, community spirit, and exceptional service. With a steady second-shift schedule and weekend responsibilities, this role is ideal for individuals who take pride in maintaining clean, safe, and functional environments and who want to support a well-respected community institution in Stamford. Candidates will find satisfaction in playing a hands-on role in ensuring every visitor, member, and staff member experiences the best possible environment at the JCC of Stamford.
