Job Requirements
- Must have a high school diploma or general education degree (GED)
- Must possess a valid Commercial Driver's License (Class A) with hazardous materials endorsement
- May be required to obtain a doubles endorsement
- Ability to read and interpret safety and shipping documents
- Good physical condition to lift up to 75 pounds, sit, stand, and walk for extended periods
- Must be able to work in outdoor weather conditions
- Must be at least 21 years old
- Must have a good driving record
- Willingness to work in warehouse and yard with minimal driving initially
- Must be able to install and remove tire chains weighing up to 60 pounds
- Ability to push or pull heavy freight using pallet jacks and dollies
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
- Valid Commercial Driver's License (Class A) with hazardous materials endorsement
- Ability to read and interpret hazardous materials shipping regulations, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
- Strong communication skills to interact with managers, customers, and the public
- Ability to apply common sense and carry out instructions in written, oral or diagram form
- Basic mathematical skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division
- Ability to work collaboratively with others
- Must be at least 21 years of age with a good driving record
Job Duties
- Drives vehicle to specified destination in accordance with company procedures and governmental regulations
- Applies knowledge of commercial driving and skills in maneuvering vehicle at varying speeds and in difficult situations such as heavy traffic, inclement weather, or tight loading/unloading dock areas
- Maintains telephone or radio contact with dispatcher to receive pick-up or delivery instructions
- Loads and unloads trailer, either individually or with assistance of dock workers, with or without mechanical freight-handling equipment
- Ensures that load is secure using cargo straps, tarps, ropes, chains, lumber and other tools
- Performs lifting, pushing, pulling, and carrying of freight as required
- Hooks and unhooks trailers from tractor or from converter dollies
- Inspects tractor or truck for defects before, during and after trips and submits reports indicating vehicle condition
- Installs and removes tire chains as required by weather conditions
- Ensures all shipping documents required to move shipment are available and complete
- Performs duties in accordance with company policies and complies with all federal, state, and local regulations for safe operation of commercial motor vehicle
- Maintains records including drivers logs, vehicle inspections, and other necessary reports
- Reports any safety hazards, accidents, or on-the-job injuries immediately to supervisor
