Job Requirements

  • Promote and act according to the mission of Vintage Tavern
  • take and record food temperatures
  • inspect and maintain sanitary food preparation areas
  • ensure proper food storage and cooking temperatures
  • verify freshness and rotate food stock
  • label prepared foods and discard oldest items
  • comply with portion sizes, cooking methods, and policies
  • report food discrepancies to manager
  • ensure product quality
  • maintain food supplies at line stations
  • handle and rotate food according to procedures
  • stir foods evenly
  • maintain hot food temperature above 140 degrees Fahrenheit
  • season and cook food as per recipes
  • bake, roast, broil, and steam various foods
  • measure and mix ingredients
  • portion and garnish food according to standards
  • test food doneness
  • follow proper plate presentation
  • prepare fruits and vegetables
  • carve and trim meats
  • assist in food prep during off-peak times
  • substitute for cooks during busy periods
  • close kitchen and check out with manager
  • attend meetings and offer improvement suggestions
  • coordinate with team to meet guest needs
  • fill in for coworkers when needed

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • previous cooking experience in a restaurant setting
  • knowledge of food safety regulations and standards
  • ability to follow recipes and portion sizes accurately
  • strong organizational and multitasking skills
  • good communication and teamwork abilities
  • ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • familiarity with kitchen equipment and cooking techniques
  • attention to detail in food preparation and presentation
  • understanding of health department guidelines
  • ability to lift heavy items and stand for long periods

Job Duties

  • Cook meats, fish, vegetables, soups and other hot food products
  • prepare and portion food products prior to cooking
  • perform food and final plate preparation including plating and garnishing
  • follow health department guidelines for food handling and storage
  • prepare food items in a timely fashion
  • take and record temperature of food and food storage areas
  • inspect, clean, and maintain food preparation and serving areas
  • regulate temperature of kitchen equipment to ensure proper cooking
  • check for freshness and rotate stock
  • label and discard prepared food as per policy
  • comply with standard portion sizes, cooking methods, and quality standards
  • report food specification discrepancies to management
  • maintain quality of products served
  • stock and maintain food products at stations
  • handle and rotate food products according to policy
  • turn or stir foods for even cooking
  • season and cook food according to recipes
  • bake, roast, broil, and steam food items
  • weigh, measure, and mix ingredients
  • observe and test foods for doneness
  • follow plate presentation and garnish setup
  • wash, peel, cut, and seed fruits and vegetables
  • carve and trim meats
  • assist with food prep during off-peak periods
  • substitute for other cooks during emergencies
  • close kitchen following checklist
  • check out with manager at end of shift
  • attend employee meetings and suggest improvements
  • coordinate with staff to meet guests’ needs
