Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • previous cooking experience in a healthcare or assisted living setting preferred
  • ability to stand, walk, stoop, and bend for periods up to eight hours
  • ability to push, pull, and lift at least 30 pounds
  • ability to transport residents in wheelchairs
  • ability to follow food safety and sanitation protocols
  • ability to work flexible schedules
  • strong communication skills
  • physical ability to handle kitchen demands

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • culinary certification or relevant vocational training is a plus
  • previous experience as a cook, preferably in healthcare or assisted living
  • strong culinary skills focused on food preparation and presentation
  • knowledge of food safety practices and dietary requirements for elderly residents
  • compassionate and patient demeanor
  • excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • ability to work effectively as part of a team
  • ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
  • physical ability to stand for long periods, lift heavy items, and work in a kitchen environment with exposure to heat and sharp utensils

Job Duties

  • Prepare and cook meals according to established menus, recipes, and dietary guidelines
  • assist in planning weekly menus that cater to residents' dietary needs, preferences, and special dietary restrictions
  • follow all food safety and sanitation procedures including proper food handling, storage, and cleanliness protocols
  • maintain a clean and organized kitchen environment
  • engage with residents in a friendly and respectful manner and accommodate meal preferences or dietary concerns
  • monitor food inventory levels and manage ordering of supplies to ensure freshness
  • maintain kitchen equipment and appliances in good working condition and report maintenance issues
  • work effectively with kitchen staff to ensure smooth meal service operations and participate in team meetings
  • complete and maintain required documentation such as food temperature logs and cleaning schedules to ensure compliance with health and safety regulations
