Job Description

The Calcasieu Parish Police Jury is a government body responsible for the administration and oversight of various public services within Calcasieu Parish, Louisiana. Among its many departments is the Juvenile Detention Center, which provides secure detention and rehabilitation services for youth. The Food Services Division within the Detention Center plays a critical role in ensuring that all residents and staff receive nutritious, safe, and timely meals. Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • minimum experience in food services or culinary supervision
  • ability to lift and move up to 25 pounds
  • ability to stand and walk for extended periods
  • knowledge of U.S.D.A. donated food handling
  • understanding of health and safety standards
  • ability to supervise kitchen staff
  • compliance with equal employment and drug-free workplace policies
  • willingness to participate in training programs
  • ability to maintain confidentiality
  • legal authorization to work

Job Duties

  • Consult with management as necessary
  • follow administrative directives of management
  • requisition and maintain inventories of U.S.D.A. donated food
  • maintain files of U.S.D.A. donated food received and used
  • purchase food and supplies
  • supervise receiving and storage of all food and supplies
  • prepare work schedules and provide written instructions for kitchen personnel
  • prepare menu sheets and analysis
  • prepare weekly food needs lists
  • supervise food preparation, service, and maintenance of equipment and facilities
  • maintain daily and monthly records, reports, and time sheets
  • uphold health, sanitation, and safety standards
  • oversee washing and sanitation of dishes and utensils
  • participate in in-service programs as requested
  • adhere to human resources and departmental policy manuals
  • sign and adhere to equal employment and drug-free workplace policies
  • assure compliance with health regulations
  • maintain confidentiality of departmental information
  • supervise all cooks in the kitchen
  • conduct employee interviews and screenings
  • plan, assign, and direct work
  • appraise performance
  • address complaints and resolve problems
  • perform other assigned duties
