Job Requirements
- Ability to understand food recipes and safe food handling and sanitation practices
- working knowledge of kitchen and food production procedures
- ability to operate kitchen equipment, tools, and utensils
- ability to perform basic math skills related to food portions
- ability to work well under pressure and collaboratively in a team
- physical ability to lift, bend, pull, push, and twist
- capable of meeting physical demands of the job including moving cafeteria tables and garbage disposal
- willingness to adapt to fast-changing work duties
- ability to take direction and feedback constructively
- able to work according to an academic calendar including some overtime and occasional Saturdays
Job Qualifications
- High School Diploma preferred but not required
- at least 1 year of experience in jobs involving physical activity or standing for multiple hours daily
- knowledge of food handling and sanitation practices
- ability to operate food production equipment
- basic math skills for portioning food
- food handler's permit (city or county) preferred
- ability to work under pressure in a team setting
Job Duties
- Prepare appropriate quantities of food according to recipes and portion sizes
- monitor student behavior during meal periods to ensure safety and encourage healthy eating
- cut and chop fruits and vegetables following kitchen guidelines
- clean kitchen areas including sweeping, mopping, wiping tables, washing dishes, and disposing of trash
- follow established kitchen processes and food safety standards
- operate kitchen equipment, tools, and utensils safely
- restock and reset kitchen for the next day
