Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Advanced experience in aviation safety management systems
  • Specialized training in aviation safety management, risk management, or safety assurance
  • Knowledge of commercial airline operations
  • Knowledge of 14 CFR Part 5 and related advisory circulars
  • Skilled in communication including written, verbal, and presentations
  • Strong analytical, research, investigative, and problem-solving abilities
  • Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work independently and as a team player
  • U.S. citizenship or authorization to work in the U.S.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Must maintain company appearance and attendance standards
  • Ability to use computer and office productivity tools efficiently
  • Ability to communicate in English
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • May require extended work hours and travel
  • Must work from Dallas, TX headquarters

Job Qualifications

  • Advanced level experience in aviation
  • Specialized training in Aviation Safety Management Systems, Risk Management, and/or Safety Assurance
  • Knowledge of commercial airline operations
  • Knowledge of 14 CFR Part 5 Safety Management Systems and applicable Advisory Circulars
  • Skilled in written, verbal, and presentation communication
  • Strong research, analytical, investigative, and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail
  • Ability to manage multiple situations simultaneously in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • Strategic thinking and understanding of the impact of current actions on future outcomes

Job Duties

  • Develops and supports Flight Operations SMS reporting, databases and associated dashboards
  • Organizes and facilitates Flight Operations Safety Risk Management (SRM) and System Assessment activities
  • Coordinates cross departmental data analysis and leads cross departmental System Assessments when requested
  • Supports and coordinates work arising from Flight Operations System Assessment outcomes requiring SRM or Corrective Action
  • Serves as the primary resource for Root Cause Analysis (RCA) in Flight Operations, including training, standardization and oversight
  • Promotes Flight Operations RCA efforts and ensures completion for regulatory and company requirements
  • Manages relationships with Flight Operations Safety programs, teams, other SWA departments, and Safety & Security
  • Oversees Safety Promotion planning and processes with required documentation and record keeping
  • Supports Safety Promotion content creation for Flight Operations Safety Programs
  • Creates and distributes SMS-specific communication for Flight Operations Employees with extended responsibilities
  • Leads and facilitates the regular review and development of Flight Operations Safety Alerts
  • Communicates SMS aspects verbally and in writing to Leadership and Employees
  • Presents SMS information to management, Pilots, industry, and government groups
  • Coordinates dissemination of SMS information across Southwest departments
  • Facilitates Flight Operations Safety contributions to quarterly Distance Learning modules
  • Tracks and oversees SMS training requirements and compliance
  • Maintains data integrity for Flight Ops Safety Tracking QuickBase application and provides updates at Datascrub meetings
  • Assists Manager Flight Safety Assurance & Risk in daily operations
  • Performs other duties as directed by Leaders
