Job Requirements
- High school diploma or GED preferred
- six months of customer service related work experience
- successful completion of training program provided by the Environmental Services Department
- ability to read, write and perform basic math
- ability to operate cleaning equipment
- able to lift up to 40 pounds
- ability to work independently and collaboratively
- excellent communication skills
- detail oriented
- physically capable of pushing, pulling, bending, and standing for extended periods
- consistent use of proper body mechanics
Job Qualifications

Job Duties
- Follows department procedures to ensure a safe environment
- sets up equipment and readies necessary supplies
- corrects observed discrepancies such as spills or overflowing trash immediately
- completes required housekeeping assignments as scheduled
- reports uncompleted assignments to supervisor prior to end of shift
- reports all discrepancies like stained curtains or broken fixtures to supervisor
- ensures proper labeling and correct chemical solutions in containers
- returns cleaning items at shift end and maintains orderly storage closets
- performs housekeeping tasks to maintain sanitary condition of all areas including high dusting, cleaning furniture, walls, floors and bathrooms
- refills dispensers daily
- collects and disposes sharps containers properly
- empties and cleans trash receptacles regularly
- cleans and prepares rooms after discharge including mattresses, bed frames, and equipment
- maintains floors by dust mopping, damp mopping, or vacuuming without build-up
- inspects own work for completeness
- collects and transports recycling and waste materials to storage areas
- assists in breaking down cardboard boxes
- removes medical waste containers and secures confidential documents
- follows proper protocol for handling and disposing contaminated items
- ensures trash and linen chute doors are closed and latched
- ties and disposes trash and linen bags correctly
- responds immediately to spill clean-ups and disposes materials used
- relines linen hampers and trash cans
- maintains bed management system for room availability with timely patient room turnaround
- anticipates discharges to plan work effectively
- maintains accurate bed availability data
- operates cleaning equipment and lifts up to 40 pounds
- consistently uses safe body mechanics
- participates as a member of the patient care team
- follows all departmental and hospital policies and procedures
