UCLA Catering is an established catering service provider operating within the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) campus environment. The catering department supports a wide variety of events ranging from small coffee services to large-scale VIP gala events. Job Requirements

  • must possess and maintain a valid CA noncommercial class c license
  • must be 21 years or older
  • must be able to drive university vehicles
  • must be available to work varying schedules including evenings, weekends, and holidays
  • completion of satisfactory background and live scan checks
  • ability to maintain a satisfactory driving record under CA DMV pull notice system

Job Qualifications

  • 2+ years management experience in a high-volume catering operation
  • highly developed interpersonal communication skills including political acumen and social perceptiveness
  • excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • ability to maintain productivity despite frequent interruptions and changing priorities
  • skill in customer interaction using positive body language and professional demeanor
  • demonstrated ability in staff supervision and motivation
  • proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and food service software
  • skilled in grammatically correct business writing
  • working knowledge of food service safety and sanitation
  • math skills for handling production and payment transactions
  • ability to manage inventory and control costs
  • capable in budget preparation and analysis
  • preferred knowledge of university policies on recruitment and performance evaluations

Job Duties

  • supervise and schedule career and casual staff for up to 40 events per day
  • coordinate equipment management and oversee maintenance
  • assist in managing inventory and controlling departmental costs
  • lead operational management for on-site and off-site catering events and deliveries
  • serve as manager on duty in the absence of the director of catering
  • ensure compliance with safety and sanitation rules
  • communicate effectively with guests, team members, and managers to maintain high productivity and service standards
