Job Requirements
- Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License or Commercial Learner Permit
- acceptable Motor Vehicle Record compliant with hiring standards
- meet Department of Transportation regulatory requirements under section 391 of Federal Motor Carrier regulations
- physical ability to lift/carry freight up to 100 pounds multiple times weekly
- ability to hook/unhook trailers requiring approximately 100 pounds lift force
- basic math competency
- basic written and verbal communication skills
- capability to sit for extended periods and perform physical activities such as bending and climbing
- compliance with all training and safety instructions
- ability to operate motorized equipment such as forklifts
- availability to work flexible hours including day and night shifts
- adherence to hazardous material handling protocols
- demonstrate customer service skills
- ability to work both independently and collaboratively
Job Qualifications
- Must possess a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or a Commercial Learner Permit (CLP) prior to entering job classification
- must possess acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) based on hiring standards
- must meet all Department of Transportation (DOT) regulatory requirements under section 391 of the Federal Motor Carrier (FMC) regulations
- ability to count and perform basic math, with or without a calculator
- basic written and verbal communication skills
- ability to hook up and break down sets of trailers that require an average lift force of approximately 100 pounds several times a day
- ability to lift/carry hand freight weighing up to 100 pounds several times a week
- ability to sit for extended periods of time, bend, twist, squat, climb in and out of truck
- ability to follow instructions and complete required training
- ability to work independently and/or as a team member
Job Duties
- Operate tractor-trailer combination, including doubles and/or straight trucks
- perform pre-trip, post-trip, and inter-trip safety inspections on equipment
- hook/unhook trailers and converter dollies to/from a tractor and/or trailer
- perform freight handling using appropriate motorized and manual equipment including forklift, pallet jack, and hand truck
- secure freight inside trailers using appropriate tools and supplies including pallets, straps, and rope
- recoup/repair damaged freight when necessary
- verify and complete required documentation and reports
- collect checks for freight charges and maintain related documentation as required
- comply with hazardous material regulations and company procedures and confirm placarding matches hazmat shipments as required
- communicate with and follow Dispatch instructions regarding events including delays, arrivals, equipment problems
- demonstrate internal and external customer service
- communicate with customers to determine pick-up or delivery needs
- ask customers for additional business and provide leads to sales for potential new opportunities
- where operationally necessary, perform job duties of a road driver or freight handler
- chain vehicle tires as required
- comply with all applicable laws/regulations and company policies/procedures
- perform other duties as required
