Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- must possess a valid class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or commercial learning permit (CLP)
- acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) as per company standards
- meet Department of Transportation (DOT) regulatory requirements under section 391 of the Federal Motor Carrier (FMC) regulations
- physical ability to lift and carry freight weighing up to 100 pounds multiple times a week
- ability to operate freight handling equipment such as forklift and pallet jack
- basic math and communication skills
- ability to perform safety inspections on vehicles
- ability to work day and night shifts and under various weather conditions
- willingness to comply with all company policies and safety regulations
Job Qualifications
- Must possess a class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or a commercial learning permit (CLP) prior to entering job classification
- must possess acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) based on hiring standards
- must meet all Department of Transportation (DOT) regulatory requirements under section 391 of the Federal Motor Carrier (FMC) regulations
- ability to count and perform basic math with or without a calculator
- basic written and verbal communication skills
- ability to hook up and break down sets of trailers that require an average lift force of approximately 100 pounds several times a day
- ability to lift/carry hand freight weighing up to 100 pounds several times a week
- ability to sit for extended periods of time bend twist squat climb in and out of truck
- ability to follow instructions and complete required training
- ability to work independently and/or as a team member
Job Duties
- Operate tractor-trailer combination including doubles and/or straight trucks
- perform pre-trip post-trip and inter-trip safety inspections on equipment
- hook/unhook trailers and converter dollies to/from a tractor and/or trailer
- perform freight handling using appropriate motorized and manual equipment including forklift pallet jack and hand truck
- secure freight inside trailers using appropriate tools and supplies including pallets straps and rope
- recoup/repair damaged freight when necessary
- verify and complete required documentation and reports
- collect checks for freight charges and maintain related documentation as required
- comply with hazardous material regulations and company procedures and confirm placarding matches hazmat shipments as required
- communicate with and follow Dispatch instructions regarding events including delays arrivals equipment problems etc as required
- demonstrate internal and external customer service
- communicate with customers to determine pick-up or delivery needs
- ask customers for additional business and provide leads to sales for potential new opportunities
- where operationally necessary perform job duties of a road driver or freight handler
- chain vehicle tires as required
- comply with all applicable laws/regulations as well as company policies/procedures
- perform other duties as required
