Job Requirements
- At least 21 years of age
- maintain a valid driver's license and have an acceptable driving record
- obtain and maintain CPR certification and complete annual driver education
- comply with safety procedures and precautions
- able to operate chair lifts and secure wheelchairs and scooters
- able to work semi-independently with minimal supervision
- pass pre-employment, post-accident, and random drug and alcohol testing
- participate in required training and comply with state and provincial regulations
- possess excellent communication skills
- maintain confidentiality of resident information
- able to respond promptly to requests and concerns
- make responsible decisions prioritizing resident safety and rights
Job Qualifications
- Maintain a current applicable driver’s license with an acceptable driving record
- obtain and maintain certifications as required including CPR and annual driver education
- possess knowledge of safety precautions and comply with safety procedures
- ability to operate chair lifts and secure wheelchairs and scooters
- minimum age of 21 years
- strong written and verbal communication skills
- competent in organizational and time management skills
- ability to work semi-independently and follow community procedures
- capable of making responsible decisions in residents' best interests
Job Duties
- Provide transportation services for residents
- assist residents with any special needs during transportation such as carrying packages, opening doors, and helping residents in and out of the vehicle
- maintain focus on driving at all times and direct tasks and passenger interactions to on-board support staff while vehicle is in motion
- follow safety, loss prevention, and infection control procedures
- coordinate activities of other team members performing in driver assistance, spotting, or resident care roles
- maintain and inspect vehicles to ensure cleanliness, proper functioning, and safety equipment compliance
- report any changes in residents' condition to the Assisted Living Coordinator or Reminiscence Coordinator
- complete pre-trip and monthly vehicle inspections and documentation
- handle and store oxygen and other materials safely according to policy
- partner with the community team to ensure regulatory compliance with occupational health and safety standards
- practice safety procedures including PPE, fire extinguishers, and safety data sheets
- complete pre-employment, post-accident, and random drug and alcohol testing as required
- attend required training and in-services
- maintain confidentiality of resident information
- respond promptly to resident, family, and team member concerns
- report vehicle accidents and safety issues immediately
- participate in team meetings and contribute to team goals and engagement initiatives
- train team members on driving and safety procedures as needed
- assist with activities when no outings are scheduled
