Job Requirements
- be at least 21 years old
- possess a proper and valid driver's license
- have a driving record that meets the criteria for being an authorized driver in accordance with company policy
- be able to pass a Department of Transportation physical examination before beginning work and ongoing as required
- be detail-oriented and safety conscious
- be able to work independently
- have good customer service skills
Job Qualifications
- valid driver's license
- ability to drive a vehicle over 10,000 lbs
- knowledge of laws, rules, and regulations governing driving motor vehicles, including commercial motor vehicles subject to Department of Transportation regulations
- ability to build and maintain positive relationships with customers, vendors, and co-workers
- ability to remain calm and function effectively in stressful, unexpected, and emergency situations
- ability to learn to operate warehouse material-handling equipment
- ability to learn and operate computer-related systems used in the delivery process
- ability to read, write, speak, and understand English
- basic math skills including adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
Job Duties
- operate trucks safely and in compliance with company rules, applicable laws, and regulations
- load the truck at the profit center with Hajoca merchandise to be delivered
- secure the load properly so that nothing will shift, get damaged, or fall from the truck
- ensure that the necessary equipment to safely unload the merchandise is available
- understand the shipping documents that are associated with the merchandise for each delivery and have accurate directions to each delivery destination
- review shipping documentation and ensure order accuracy
- unload correct merchandise from the truck and place it where the receiving party wants it
- obtain legible signature for all merchandise delivered per company policy and procedure
- collect and secure outstanding payments for all cash sale deliveries prior to releasing the material to the customer
- work with customers at the delivery site to resolve shipping discrepancies quickly and accurately
- load the truck at other locations with merchandise
- provide sales leads by noting prospective customer names and addresses discovered in the course of making deliveries
- inspect the truck and required parts and accessories to determine safe operating condition prior to departure from the Hajoca location
- keep truck clean of debris in cab and body
- advise management of any mechanical problems with the truck
- complete the driver's daily vehicle inspection report when driving a delivery vehicle with a gross vehicle weight (GVWR) of 10,001 lbs. or more if a defect or deficiency is found
- remove keys from the truck and store keys in the approved location at the end of the workday
- successfully complete required safety and compliance training programs as assigned
- perform other reasonably related duties as assigned by immediate supervisor and other management as required
