Job Description
UCLA Custodial Services is a vital department responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and hygiene of over 12.5 million combined state-supported and client-requested square footage across the university. This includes a wide variety of specialized and highly sensitive areas such as vivariums, recreational facilities, wet and dry laboratories, and patient care zones. Job Requirements
- High school diploma preferred
- Six months of custodial experience preferred
- Valid California driver's license preferred if operating university vehicle
- Ability to pass background check
- Candidate must be 18 years or older
- Ability to pass pre-placement physical exam
- Maintain satisfactory driving record as required
- Ability to report to work on time and maintain attendance
- Ability to work overtime and weekends
- Ability to work various shifts
Job Qualifications
- Six months of previous custodial experience preferred
- Working knowledge of custodial cleaning and general maintenance duties required
- Working knowledge of custodial equipment operation required
- Preferred knowledge of floor care machines such as stripping machines and waxers
- Ability to maintain custodian service quality standards
- Oral communication skills in English
- Ability to read and write simple English for instructions and reporting
- Ability to work independently
- Working knowledge of safe work practices and procedures
- Ability to maintain good attendance and punctuality
- Ability to work various shifts and overtime
- Ability to maintain cooperative and respectful working relationships
Job Duties
- Maintain cleanliness and hygiene of university facilities including specialized areas such as vivariums and laboratories
- Operate custodial equipment such as vacuum cleaners, mops, floor strippers, buffers, and waxers
- Follow established safety practices and procedures in handling cleaning chemicals and equipment
- Communicate effectively with supervisors and team members using oral and written English
- Record and report on custodial activities accurately
- Work independently to complete assigned tasks with minimal supervision
- Manage work schedules including overtime and weekend shifts as required
