Job Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination as determined by a completed background investigation
  • completion of a pre-employment physical examination and an annual examination thereafter
  • ability to lift up to 45 lbs in the regular performance of duties
  • appointment subject to a one year probationary period unless previous requirements met
  • ability to work shift work including evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations with regularly scheduled rotation
  • required to be screened for applicable immunizations or pre-existing immunity based on occupational risk
  • mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and subject to annual vaccination

Job Qualifications

  • Ability to do the work of the position without more than normal supervision
  • ability to interpret instructions, specifications, etc. other than blueprint reading
  • ability to use and maintain tools and equipment
  • dexterity and safety
  • work practices including keeping things neat, clean, and in order
  • ability to perform common custodial, janitorial, and housekeeping activities within a large hospital setting
  • skilled in loading supply carts and ensuring adequate cleaning materials and equipment are available
  • ability to clean, disinfect, and deodorize lavatories, urinals, and toilet bowls

Job Duties

  • Maintain cleanliness and sanitation required to meet the standards for hospital accreditation
  • keep restrooms in a clean, orderly, and sanitary condition
  • load supply carts and ensure that adequate cleaning materials and equipment are available to do the job
  • report to supervisor any broken windows, water leaks, clogged drains, burned out light bulbs and other equipment requiring maintenance and repair
  • load rubbish and infectious wastes into carts, transport carts to areas outside the building and empty carts into commercial containers
