Job Requirements

  • Equivalent to completion of twelfth grade
  • One year of paid food preparation experience for Cook
  • Two years of progressively difficult cooking experience with one year supervisory experience for Cook-Lead
  • Ability to pass pre-employment drug and alcohol screening
  • Ability to pass background investigation
  • Ability to work flexible hours if required
  • Ability to operate kitchen equipment safely
  • Ability to maintain sanitation standards
  • Ability to communicate effectively

Job Qualifications

  • Equivalent to completion of twelfth grade
  • One year of paid food preparation experience (Cook)
  • Two years of progressively difficult cooking and food preparation experience with one year of supervisory experience (Cook-Lead)
  • Knowledge of safe kitchen equipment use and sanitation practices
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse populations
  • Ability to prepare food according to recipes and special diets
  • Supervisory and meal planning skills (Cook-Lead)

Job Duties

  • Prepare, cook, and bake a variety of foods in large quantities
  • Follow recipes and instructions for food preparation and special diets
  • Operate kitchen equipment safely and maintain sanitation standards
  • Requisition food and supplies to meet meal counts and menu requirements
  • Cook and serve appetizing meals
  • Maintain sanitary requirements in institutional kitchens
  • Supervise and train kitchen staff (Cook-Lead)
