Job Requirements
- Graduation from high school or equivalent preferred
- six months of food preparation work required
- valid Texas driver’s license or ability to obtain
- eligible driving record per HHSC policy
- food handler training in Texas required
- obtain Texas Food Manager or Food Protection Manager certification within six months
- pass fingerprint criminal background check and pre-employment drug screen
- pass registry checks including Client Abuse/Neglect Reporting System
- males 18-25 must be registered with Selective Service
- willingness to work weekends, holidays, overtime, and extended shifts
- at least 18 years of age
Job Qualifications
- Six months of food preparation work experience
- experience cooking in healthcare food service preferred
- high school diploma or equivalent preferred
- knowledge of food preparation methods and sanitation regulations
- skill in operating and maintaining food service equipment
- ability to interpret and follow recipes
- ability to lift at least 25 pounds
- ability to work in hot and cold conditions
- ability to guide and train others
- food handler training certification required
- Texas Food Manager or Food Protection Manager certification within six months of hire
Job Duties
- Attend work regularly according to shift schedule
- prepare, season, cook and assemble food for regular and modified diets
- operate and maintain food service equipment safely
- calculate proper food amounts using standardized menus and recipes
- participate in food distribution and serving for special diets
- maintain sanitation of food preparation areas and equipment
- guide, train and oversee subordinate kitchen staff
- complete required records and reports
- assist in operational efficiency recommendations
- perform other food service department duties including canteen operations, receiving deliveries, and answering phones
- participate in disaster response or COOP activities as assigned
