Job Requirements

  • Ability to meet attendance requirements
  • ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English
  • ability to cook, taste, and smell food
  • ability to perform continuous walking, stooping, standing, and some climbing
  • ability to safely drive a Salvation Army vehicle following all laws and policies
  • physical ability to perform tasks involving squatting, climbing, bending, walking and lifting up to 50 pounds
  • commitment to supporting the religious mission of The Salvation Army

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or G.E.D.
  • one year experience cooking food for large groups or equivalent training and experience
  • knowledge of proper cooking methods and procedures
  • knowledge of meal planning techniques
  • knowledge of effective cleaning and sanitizing practices
  • ability to follow instructions and work independently
  • Food Handler's Certificate or ability to obtain within established timeframe

Job Duties

  • Cook and serve nutritional meals and snacks according to established guidelines and schedules
  • ensure meals are prepared and served in a safe and presentable manner
  • clean kitchen facilities, equipment, and appliances
  • maintain inventory of kitchen supplies and food in a neat and orderly manner
  • follow food safety and sanitation protocols
  • assist with kitchen organization and stock management
  • comply with The Salvation Army's policies and procedures
