Job Requirements

  • high school diploma or GED
  • two years experience in food service industry as a cook, preferably in high volume establishments
  • capable of standing and walking short distances for extended periods
  • ability to lift and carry more than 50 pounds
  • ability to stoop, bend at the knees, and twist at the waist
  • ability to reach above, below, and at shoulder level

  • knowledge of food preparation methods and kitchen equipment
  • ability to work under pressure with a calm approach
  • good communication and interpersonal skills
  • strong positive attitude toward customer service
  • genuine interest in geriatric care
  • proficiency in reading, writing, and following directions

  • knowledge of various cooking methods, ingredients, and procedures
  • capability to handle routine problems effectively
  • demonstrated knowledge of safely operating kitchen equipment

Job Duties

  • ensure the safety of prepared foods by monitoring food temperatures and recording results in a food temperature log
  • maintain sanitary working conditions by adhering to state and county health standards and following cleaning schedules
  • prepare meals by following approved menus, recipes, and food production sheets
  • assist in controlling food costs by properly storing and labeling leftovers, monitoring waste, and suggesting waste reduction projects
  • optimize resident satisfaction by recommending menu innovations and improved food presentation
  • support other departments by preparing special meals for meetings, conferences, and charitable projects
  • perform other duties as assigned
