Job Requirements

  • must obtain and maintain TIER-1 Childcare (CNACI) background checks
  • must pass pre-employment and annual physicals
  • must provide evidence of immunization and be free from communicable diseases
  • must complete Department of Defense training requirements including orientation, initial and ongoing training
  • must maintain 4 Hour Food Handler certification
  • must maintain CPR and First Aid certifications
  • may need government driver’s license and government purchase card
  • ability to communicate effectively in English orally and in writing
  • strong interpersonal communication skills

Job Qualifications

  • working knowledge of food preparation methods and procedures
  • skill in cooking a limited variety of foods
  • ability to read and understand food service materials such as labels and recipes
  • ability to perform basic arithmetic calculations for recipes and servings
  • knowledge of characteristics of various foods such as color, flavor, consistency, texture, temperature, and cooking times
  • skill in planning, coordinating, and timing food preparation to meet serving schedules
  • knowledge of sanitation principles

Job Duties

  • perform simple cooking tasks such as preparing pancakes, sausage, eggs, hamburgers, and vegetables
  • prepare hot cereals, broil meats, cook soups, sauces, and gravies
  • make cold sandwich fillings and prepare convenience items like frozen hash browns, fish fillets, chicken nuggets, and pizza
  • assist with food preparation tasks including peeling, cutting, sorting, washing vegetables and fruits, and assembling sandwiches
  • weigh, measure, and dispense food in accordance with portion controls
  • maintain kitchen cleanliness by washing dishes, pots, pans, and utensils
  • sanitize food preparation areas and operate mechanical dishwashers
  • store and label food items according to sanitation standards
  • comply with security, fire, and sanitation rules and policies
  • ensure compliance with USDA Child and Adult Care Food Program standards
  • report suspected child abuse or neglect as required
  • provide customer service and solve problems promptly
  • adhere to safety and equal employment opportunity policies
  • perform other duties as assigned
