Job Requirements

  • Completion of four years of high school or equivalent
  • minimum of two years culinary experience
  • ability to pass Southcoast's written culinary exam
  • Serv Safe Certification within 60 days of hire
  • fully vaccinated against seasonal influenza and COVID-19 or approved exemption
  • ability to work day and evening shifts including every other weekend and holiday rotation
  • must be able to work 40 hours per week at Charlton Memorial Hospital
  • effective communication skills
  • commitment to food safety and sanitation

Job Qualifications

  • judgment and planning skills for food preparation
  • minimum of two years culinary experience
  • institutional experience preferred
  • ability to pass Southcoast's written culinary exam
  • Serv Safe Certification within 60 days of hire
  • fully vaccinated against seasonal influenza and COVID-19 or exemption signed post hire

Job Duties

  • Prepare short-order foods
  • prepare made to order foods
  • prepare Garde Manger items for departmental feeding
  • cook soups, stews, chowders, chili from scratch
  • monitor food quality, temperature and flavor
  • make corrections to food based on tasting, portioning and appearance
  • accurately extend recipes to maintain meal costs
  • keep production and temperature records updated
  • report problems to Chef or Manager
  • maintain cleanliness and organization of refrigerators and freezers
  • follow established sanitation guidelines
  • perform other reasonable duties as assigned
