Job Qualifications

Job Duties

  • Prepares various foods depending on menu created by dieticians for each meal of the day
  • Operates various kitchen equipment in preparation for the meal such as mixer, meat slicer, food processor, oven, steamer
  • Cleans work surfaces following shift including sweeping floors and wiping down counters
  • Creates meals appropriate for the elderly and in large quantities using institutional-sized cookware
  • Works at a constant pace to ensure food is ready for each meal
  • Complies with infection control policies in the work area
  • Keeps equipment clean at all times
  • May fill in gaps in kitchen help as needed
  • Reports any needed repairs to maintenance department
  • Reads and understands menus
  • Prepares meals in accordance with the menu and standardized recipes
  • Assists in the food service line to ensure diets are served as ordered including specialized and therapeutic diets
  • Monitors and serves meals with appropriate portion control
  • Assists in processing diet changes and new diets
  • Provides meals on time and substitutes for those who refuse certain foods
  • Properly scrapes and washes dishes, pots, and pans
  • Records freezer and refrigerator temperatures as per procedures
  • Checks and puts up stock appropriately
  • Stores cleaning materials properly
  • Sets up and performs tray line service
  • Returns trays to kitchen if requested
  • Understands and follows diet and NPO orders
  • Processes diet orders and menu substitutions
  • Properly stores leftovers and opened food
  • Makes coffee and tea as requested
  • Follows procedures for serving associate meals
  • Cleans kitchen equipment including carts, tables, counters, ice machine, blender, mixer, and more
  • Uses appropriate serving equipment
  • Checks and records water temperature and dishwasher sanitizer levels
  • Checks and replaces chemical levels
  • Follows proper operating procedures for kitchen equipment
  • Promotes system image by exhibiting servant leadership and open communication
  • Contributes to committees, workgroups, and project management
  • Performs other duties to ensure system success
