Job Description

The role of Kitchen Associate at Bolingreen Health & Rehab is pivotal in ensuring the delivery of nutritious and appealing meals that meet the specialized dietary needs of elderly patients. This position is responsible for preparing various foods as dictated by dieticians, operating kitchen equipment safely and efficiently, and maintaining cleanliness and hygiene standards throughout the kitchen area. Job Requirements

  • high school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • prior experience in food preparation or kitchen environment preferred
  • ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
  • basic math skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division
  • ability to stand, walk, sit, talk, and hear for extended periods
  • ability to use hands and reach with arms
  • capability to follow infection control and kitchen safety policies
  • ability to operate kitchen equipment safely
  • availability to perform cleaning and maintenance tasks
  • documented aptitude for teamwork and cooperation
  • proficiency with basic computer applications including Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word

Job Duties

  • prepares various foods depending on menu created by dieticians for each meal of the day
  • operates various kitchen equipment in preparation for the meal
  • cleans work surfaces following shift including sweeping floors and wiping down counter space
  • creates meals appropriate for the elderly in large quantities using institutional-sized cookware
  • works at a constant pace to ensure food is ready for each meal
  • complies with infection control policies
  • keeps equipment clean
  • fills in gaps in kitchen help as necessary
  • reports needed repairs to maintenance
  • reads and understands menus
  • prepares meals according to menu and standardized recipes
  • assists in the food service line to ensure diets are served as ordered including specialized diets
  • monitors and serves meals with appropriate portion controls
  • processes diet changes and new diets
  • ensures meals are prepared and served on time
  • provides substitutes for refusals
  • properly cleans dishes, pots, and pans
  • records refrigerator and freezer temperatures
  • checks and stocks inventory
  • stores cleaning materials appropriately
  • sets up tray line and performs tray line service
  • returns trays if requested
  • understands and processes diet orders including NPO and substitutions
  • properly stores leftovers
  • makes coffee/tea as requested
  • follows procedures for associate meals
  • cleans kitchen equipment properly
  • uses appropriate serving equipment
  • checks water temperature and dishwasher sanitizer levels
  • checks and replaces chemical levels
  • follows proper operating procedures for kitchen equipment
  • promotes the image and reputation of the system through servant leadership and collaboration
  • performs other duties as necessary
