Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Bilingual in English/Spanish preferred
  • Must be 21 years or older
  • Possession of a valid California driver’s license, Class C, with less than 6 points in the prior 36 months and no DUIs in the prior 7 years
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain access to Marine Corp Base Camp Pendleton
  • Ability to obtain a California Class B Commercial Driver License with passenger and airbrake endorsement before training completion
  • Valid California Verification of Transit Training (VTT) Card
  • Valid Medical Examiner's Certificate (MEC)
  • Successful completion of NCTD Coach Operator course at Operations Central Instruction
  • Subject to Federal Transit Administration drug and alcohol testing including random testing

Job Duties

  • Collects fares and transports passengers on public transit buses
  • Operates transit buses safely, courteously, and efficiently while maintaining schedule adherence
  • Performs complete pre-trip inspections and safety checks on bus equipment
  • Provides schedule, route, and fare information to passengers seeking assistance
  • Assists passengers with disabilities by operating wheelchair ramps and securing wheelchairs
  • Receives and transmits two-way radio messages related to accidents, emergencies, or bus operations
  • Reports hazardous conditions along routes and adjusts routes as approved
  • Maintains acceptable driving record and complies with traffic laws and NCTD policies
  • Completes required reports as directed by management
  • Contributes to enforcement of Equal Employment Opportunity policies
  • Performs other duties as assigned
