Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Two years of verifiable interstate driving experience or one year plus approved driving school diploma
- Valid Class A commercial driver's license
- Hazardous material and tank endorsements or willingness to obtain within 90 days
- Clean driving record with no suspensions or serious violations in past 36 months
- Ability to pass DOT physical examination
- Consent to pre-employment and prior employer drug and alcohol testing
- Compliance with all federal, state, and local commercial vehicle operating regulations
- Ability to operate tractor-trailer safely under various road conditions and schedules
- Willingness to assist with loading and unloading freight when required and certified
- Completion of full employment application and background checks
- Registration with FMCSA Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse
Job Qualifications
- Two years of verifiable interstate driving experience or one year plus accredited driving school diploma approved by PITT OHIO
- Pass PITT OHIO driving test by approved trainer or designee
- Possess or obtain hazardous material and tank endorsement within 90 days of employment
- Hold one valid driver’s license from state of residence with required documentation for previous licenses
- No record of license suspension or revocation within past 36 months
- No record of specific serious traffic violations including DUI, open container, refusal of tests, reckless homicide, leaving accident scene, drag racing, felony use of vehicle, assault, reckless driving, operating without permission, fleeing police
- No more than three motor vehicle violations during past 36 months
- No more than three at-fault accidents during past 36 months
- Pass Department of Transportation physical exam
- Consent to pre-employment drug screen and provide negative substance test results from previous employers
- No refusal to alcohol or controlled substance test in past 36 months
- No open violations in FMCSA Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse
- Complete application fully with details on employment gaps
- Consent to 10-year work history check
- Review of roadside inspection reports via PSP and other performance history
- Demonstrate stable work history, dependability, work ethic, and positive attitude
Job Duties
- Drive a commercial vehicle safely primarily in road operation during overnight hours
- Operate terminal to terminal or terminal to relay point and return to home terminal
- Work Monday to Friday night with occasional weekend shifts
- Remain home daily unless unforeseen circumstances arise such as weather
- Occasionally make customer deliveries or pickups
- Assist in unloading or loading freight at terminals using dock tools if certified
- Secure freight using strapping or other methods
- Inspect vehicle for defects and safety compliance as required by law and company policy
- Comply with all federal requirements regarding transportation of hazardous materials
- Drive tractor/trailer in accordance with hours of service limitations and regulatory requirements
- Maintain records required for compliance including driver logs
- Perform duties in accordance with company policies and federal, state, local regulations for safe operation of commercial motor vehicles
