Job Requirements
- Class A Commercial Driver's License with necessary endorsements
- one year relevant experience within the past three years or successful completion of driver development course
- acceptable Motor Vehicle Record
- meet Department of Transportation regulatory requirements
- obtain hazardous materials endorsement within 120 days of hire
- ability to perform physical job functions including lifting up to 100 pounds
- basic math and communication skills
- comply with all company and legal regulations
- willingness to work varied hours and conditions
Job Qualifications
- Must possess a class A Commercial Driver's License with double/triple, hazardous materials and tank endorsements
- must possess one year experience within most recent three years or completion of FedEx Freight Driver Development Course
- must possess acceptable Motor Vehicle Record based on hiring standards
- must meet all Department of Transportation regulatory requirements under section 391 of Federal Motor Carrier regulations
- Long combination vehicles qualification and certification minimum standards for specific states
- ability to count and perform basic math
- basic written and verbal communication skills
- ability to lift/carry hand freight up to 100 pounds
- ability to sit for extended periods, bend, twist, squat and climb in and out of truck
- ability to follow instructions and complete required training
- ability to work independently and/or as a team member
Job Duties
- Operate tractor-trailer combination including doubles and triples and/or straight trucks
- perform daily pre-trip and safety inspections on equipment
- hook/unhook trailers and converter dollies
- perform freight handling using forklifts, pallet jacks and hand trucks
- secure freight inside trailers using pallets, straps and rope
- recoup/repair damaged freight when necessary
- verify and complete required documentation and reports
- comply with hazardous material regulations and procedures
- collect cash or checks for freight charges and maintain required documentation
- follow dispatch instructions and communicate with dispatch including delays, arrivals and equipment problems
- communicate with customers to determine pick-up or delivery needs and solicit additional business
- demonstrate internal and external customer service
- ask for additional business from customers and provide leads to sales
- may be required to perform chaining of vehicle tires
- may perform job duties of a road driver or dock employee where necessary
- comply with all applicable laws, regulations, company policies and procedures
- perform other duties as required
