Job Requirements
- Possession of a baccalaureate degree in Journalism, English, Communications, or Public Relations
- Two years of professional experience with advising collegiate student broadcasting/media or related responsibilities
- Functional knowledge of broadcasting/media programs and station production
- Understanding of policies, procedures, and guidelines related to student organizations
- Ability to communicate effectively in various situations
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
- Ability to use word-processing software
- Availability to work evenings and weekends
- Temporary appointment not to exceed 89 days
- Full-time availability up to 40 hours per week
- Ability to assist in event planning, budgeting, and coordination
Job Qualifications
- Possession of a baccalaureate degree in Journalism, English, Communications, or Public Relations and two (2) years of professional experience with responsibilities for advising collegiate student broadcasting/media, designing student training activities, creating student broadcasting/media policies and procedures or any equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience
- Functional knowledge of broadcasting/media programs, station production, and management
- Functional knowledge of principles, practices, and techniques in advising collegiate student broadcasting/media on policies, skills, terminology, and technology
- Functional knowledge of broadcasting/media ethics
- Functional knowledge of managing a budget
- Functional knowledge and understanding of principles, theories, federal and state laws, and University rules, regulations, and systems associated with Chartered Student Organizations and student life programs
- Practical knowledge of UH policies, procedures, and guidelines related to Chartered Student Organizations and student-fee funded co-curricular programs, services, and activities
- Demonstrated ability to recognize problems, identify possible causes, and resolve a range of issues commonly occurring in co-curricular programs, services, and activities
- Demonstrated ability to understand oral and written documentation, write reports and procedures, and communicate effectively in a variety of situations
- Demonstrates ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations, groups, team members and individuals
- Demonstrated ability to operate a personal computer and apply word-processing software
Job Duties
- Oversee Chartered Student Organizations (CSO) compliance by advising the organizations on governing documents and university regulations, addressing operational discrepancies, and maintaining the accuracy of the CSO Handbook
- Collaborate with faculty advisors, student leaders, and campus programs to strengthen student participation and connect classroom learning with co-curricular experiences
- Serve as staff advisor for the Chartered Student Organizations as assigned
- Act as a resource for students, faculty, and staff on leadership and development initiatives
- Encourage collaboration between CSOs and Registered Independent Student Organizations (RISOs) to enhance their campus and community presence
- Ensure the organizations comply with university policies and are in alignment with Campus Center, university, and state regulations
- Stay informed on industry trends to support student-led media and publications
- Assist in coordinating student leadership training workshops
- Maintain student organization storage space and student organization supplies
- Coordinate communications with student organizations, leaders, and advisors regarding their work
- Assist student organizations with event planning and scheduling, budgeting, contracting, facilities, safety, food, and other related needs
- Identify marketing strategies to promote events and encourage student participation
- Provide logistical support, such as securing venues, AV equipment, and necessary resources
- Provide leadership and support on divisional and university-wide committees, planning efforts, and programs
- Advise University Radio Hilo and student media organizations, ensuring compliance with Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and institutional regulations
- Provide training on radio broadcasting, operations, ethics, programming, and promotion
- Work evenings and weekends as required
- Perform other duties as assigned
