Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or high school diploma with relevant experience
  • Minimum one to two years experience working with individuals with disabilities or elderly
  • Registration as a Nurse licensed in Hawaii (if applicable)
  • Supervision by qualified staff for at least six months when employed by Easterseals Hawaii
  • People skills and advocacy skills
  • Ability to build relationships
  • Verbal and written communication skills
  • Sensitivity to diverse populations
  • Commitment to confidentiality and HIPAA compliance
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office software
  • Ability to multitask effectively in high energy environment

  • Ability to respond immediately and appropriately to emergencies
  • Physical ability to frequently bend, reach, squatting, kneel, stand or sit for long hours
  • Ability to lift and carry materials up to 50 lbs
  • Ability to drive frequently
  • Valid driver's license, current auto insurance, valid vehicle registration and safety check
  • Successful clearance of background checks including FBI, Department of Justice, drug test, motor vehicle report, references, and education verification
  • Valid First Aid and CPR certification
  • Must clear TB clearance and ongoing TB testing

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in social sciences, education, or related field
  • One or more years of verifiable experience working directly with individuals with disabilities or elderly
  • Registered Nurse licensed in the State of Hawaii is acceptable
  • High school diploma or equivalent with two or more years of experience working with individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities
  • Employed by Easterseals Hawaii for a minimum of six months if applicable
  • Supervision under qualified staff with relevant credentials for at least six months
  • Strong people, advocacy, relationship-building, verbal and written communication skills
  • Sensitivity to working with ethnically, linguistically, culturally, and economically diverse populations
  • Commitment to confidentiality and HIPAA compliance
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office, especially Excel
  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
  • Commitment to ongoing clinical skill development
  • Skilled in handling behavioral and health-related incidents
  • Experienced in responding to audio and visual cues
  • Effective oral and written communication with diverse stakeholders
  • Ability to apply problem-solving and critical thinking skills
  • Immediate and appropriate response to emergencies as per organizational guidelines

Job Duties

  • Maintain a participant caseload and encourage participant's independence and self-determination
  • Attend Individualized Service Plans and other relevant meetings as required
  • Assist Program Manager in conducting staff orientation, training, and performance evaluations
  • Assess participants' current level of independence to develop objectives and appropriate activities based on the ISP
  • Facilitate community integration and participation in activities of the participant's interest
  • Communicate with outside agencies and facilities to ensure services are being offered and provided
  • Supervise Direct Support Workers and Activity Coordinators to ensure compliance with Waiver and CARF regulations
  • Oversee day-to-day participant activities ensuring safety protocols are followed
  • Train Direct Support Workers in implementing ISPs, collecting data, and documenting progress
  • Review and approve documentation including GERs, mileage, timecards, and reimbursements
  • React appropriately and positively to participant behaviors and support intervention techniques
  • Conduct opening and closing duties of the facility as required
  • Execute emergency procedures and program evacuation plans
  • Interpret and implement organization policies, procedures, and regulations
  • Maintain quality assurance of participant charts regularly
  • Provide direct services when requested
