The role of the Bakery Decorator/Associate at Weis Markets is essential to maintaining the quality and appeal of the bakery department. This position is responsible for various tasks ranging from customer interaction and order fulfillment to cake decoration and department maintenance. Associates in this role are dedicated to creating visually appealing and delicious bakery products that meet customer expectations while adhering to company standards and safety regulations. With a strong focus on customer service, the bakery associate greets customers with a friendly attitude, provides product suggestions, and efficiently handles phone and in-person orders. They also decorate cakes using various techniques, colors, and frostings, ensuring each product is made to specification and reflects the quality Weis Markets is known for.

Beyond decorating cakes, the associate also plays a vital role in merchandising, inventory control, and maintaining cleanliness and sanitation in the department. This includes adhering to approved recipes, following production logs, implementing rotation and markdown policies, and ensuring all health and OSHA standards are met. The role may also involve assisting with receiving and stocking deliveries, as well as other store duties when necessary. Weis Markets provides training to support associates in various operational tasks and encourages teamwork and cooperation to ensure smooth store functioning. Job Requirements

High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
1-2 years experience in decorating
Ability to perform all essential duties with or without accommodation
Good communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to work standing for extended periods
Willingness to follow company policies and safety guidelines
Ability to handle customer inquiries and concerns professionally

Job Duties

Keeps bakery department well stocked and appealing to meet customer demand
Smiles and greets customers, makes suggestions, answers questions about various products and preparation of cakes
Helps resolve customer concerns in a prompt and courteous manner
Takes customer orders over the phone or in person at the store with a pleasant and positive attitude
Determines what the customer is looking for in terms of size, flavor and appearance
Creates the finished decorated product in timely fashion
Decorates cakes and other bakery products using dye, specific designs or by creating custom designs
Uses variety of creams, frostings and fillings with consistent outcome
Makes icing for cakes and other related products
Adheres to company approved recipes
Trims and cuts cakes to required shape and size
Spreads icing between layers and on cake surface
Tints white icing to required colors
Assists in filling and merchandising the bakery sales area while adhering to production logs
Creates cakes, pastries, etc. for sale in service case
Follows rotation and markdown policies to ensure quality and freshness
Helps maintain inventory levels with proper ordering and proper production logging
May assist with receiving, unloading, checking-in, breaking-down, and storing deliveries through operation of power jack or hand jack if properly trained
May assist with baling cardboard or other related duties if properly trained
Responsible for general sanitation in the department
Follows cleaning schedules and department guidelines to ensure that work areas, equipment, counters, display cases, etc. are well maintained, clean and meet all health and OSHA requirements
Disposes of trash properly
Ensures smooth function of department and store by cooperating with co-workers and supervisors
Responsible to continuously improve job performance
Responsible for utilization of all company provided Personal Protected Equipment (PPE), including but not limited to cut resistant gloves, safety cutters, company sponsored footwear
May also be called upon to assist in other departments
