Job Requirements

  • Military enlistment in the Army National Guard
  • must be at least a junior in high school, or have a high school diploma or a GED certificate
  • must be between the ages of 17 and 35
  • must be able to pass a physical exam and meet legal and moral standards
  • must meet citizenship requirements

Job Qualifications

  • Interest in cooking, home economics, health, mathematics, accounting and chemistry
  • basic soldiering skills training
  • ability to work in a team environment
  • ability to follow detailed recipes and instructions
  • strong attention to hygiene and sanitation standards
  • excellent organizational skills
  • physical fitness to handle kitchen equipment and supplies

Job Duties

  • Bake, fry, braise, boil, simmer, steam and sauté as prescribed by Army recipes
  • operate, maintain and clean field kitchen equipment
  • perform preventive maintenance on garrison and field kitchen equipment
  • plan and prepare standard and dietetic menus
  • order and manage food and supply inventory
  • store meats, poultry and other perishable items properly
  • ensure food safety and facility sanitation
