The role offered is that of a Gourmet Chef within the deli/bistro team, an exciting and dynamic position that blends creativity with operational responsibility. The Gourmet Chef is an essential team member who assists in the preparation, display, and merchandising of all bistro foods for sale, including fresh prepared and packaged items. This position requires a passion for food and cooking, as well as the ability to contribute creatively to the development, preparation, and presentation of outstanding prepared foods available for breakfasts, lunches, dinners, and catered events.
The Gourmet Chef is expected to demonstrate a friendly and approachable demeanor while working safely in a fast-paced environment that demands multitasking and prioritization. Duties involve working closely with the deli/bistro team lead and executive chef to achieve sales and quality goals and to maintain excellent customer service standards. Creativity is highly valued, particularly in planning and presenting diverse menus that appeal to a broad customer base. The Gourmet Chef will engage customers by offering product information, active sampling, and personalized selling suggestions, always maintaining a positive attitude and fostering a welcoming atmosphere.
An important aspect of the role includes facilitating catered events from initiation through to successful completion, collaborating with the catering director and executive chef to plan menus that meet profitability targets and company standards. The position also requires excellent communication and salesmanship skills to interact effectively with clients and vendors, ensuring transparency across teams and management. Compliance with all health department and regulatory policies is mandatory, along with careful food cost control and waste minimization through diligent monitoring and reworking of production methods.
Physically, this role demands standing, sitting, lifting up to 50 pounds, pushing, keyboarding, telephone use, walking, and bending for extended periods. Job Requirements
- Must be 18 years of age
- Must be 21 years of age for any position that serves alcohol
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
- Ability to stand, sit, bend, walk and perform physical tasks for extended periods
- Experience working in fast-paced food preparation environments
- Availability to work flexible schedules including weekends and holidays
- Effective communication skills
- Ability to work well in a team environment
Job Qualifications
- Experience in a culinary or gourmet chef role
- Strong creativity and passion for food preparation and presentation

Job Duties
- Working with the deli/bistro team lead and/or executive chef to achieve sales, product quality and presentation and customer service goals established for the department
- Planning, developing and presenting various menus, using a great deal of expertise and creativity
- Answering phones and taking special orders
- Maintaining a positive and friendly attitude towards customers and fellow team members
- Engaging with customers through smiles and greetings, offering product information, providing selling suggestions and active sampling and always giving a genuine thank you
- Facilitating catered events from their beginning to a happy conclusion
- Working with catering director and the executive chef on menu planning and facilitating the production of catering menus to ensure profitability and company standards
