Founded in 1958 by Jim Haslam II in Gate City, Virginia, the company is headquartered in Knoxville, Tennessee. In January 2024, Pilot Travel Centers became a wholly owned subsidiary of Berkshire Hathaway after acquiring the remaining 20% stake from the Haslam family.
