Melting Pot Ministries (MPM) is a Pittsburgh-based nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering and uplifting children and families in the South Hills region. Established in 2004, MPM was founded by five churches in the lower South Hills that unified to address rising community needs.
MPM offers a comprehensive suite of programs designed to foster positive development and academic success among youth. Their after-school program provides remedial support and hands-on experiences preparing students for life beyond high school.
Additionally, MPM organizes summer camps, one-on-one academic coaching, tutoring, mentoring, workshops, events, and family retreats to support youth and families.
Key Programs
A notable initiative is the annual summer camp themed "Created by Design," a six-week program filled with enriching activities. Campers engage in STEAM activities, Makerspace projects, and Gratitude Circles that foster creativity and self-discovery.
The camp includes personalized academic support, field trips, park days, outdoor activities, and Friday Splash parties at the South Park Wave Pool.
Impact and Community Served
MPM's impact is significant; 93% of participants graduate from high school and pursue higher education. Furthermore, 80% of children regularly attending the after-school program improved their reading and/or math skills during the 2023-24 school year.
The organization operates primarily in Baldwin-Whitehall, South Park, and Bethel Park. It serves a diverse community, including many children of color.
Fundraising and Support Opportunities
In addition to programs, MPM hosts fundraising events such as the annual Gala, featuring entertainment, performances by children, and silent auctions to support their initiatives.
Supporters can become sponsors or donate items for auctions. The organization relies on financial support from local foundations, businesses, families, and individuals to continue its mission.
