About Luby's

Luby's Restaurant Corporation is a Texas-based chain of cafeteria-style restaurants known for offering a variety of homestyle American dishes in a casual dining environment. Founded in 1947 by Robert M. "Bob" Luby in San Antonio, Texas, the company has grown to operate numerous locations across the state.

The menu at Luby's features a diverse selection of freshly prepared foods, including classic comfort dishes such as fried chicken, meatloaf, macaroni and cheese, and an array of vegetables and salads. This variety caters to a broad range of tastes, appealing to families, seniors, and individuals seeking quick, satisfying meals.

The cafeteria-style service allows customers to select their preferred items from a buffet, providing a personalized dining experience.

In addition to its restaurant operations, Luby's has expanded its services through Luby's Culinary Services, which provides contract food-service management to various institutions. These include healthcare facilities, higher education campuses, and corporate dining locations.

This division offers tailored dining solutions to meet the specific needs of each client, ensuring quality and consistency across all services.

Over the years, Luby's has undergone several changes, including the acquisition of other restaurant chains such as Fuddruckers, Koo Koo Roo, and Cheeseburger in Paradise.

However, in June 2020, the company announced plans to sell all its operating divisions and assets, including real estate holdings, and to liquidate its existing assets. This decision was influenced by various factors, including the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

By November 2020, approximately 99% of Luby's stockholders voted in favor of the company's dissolution.

As of April 2024, Luby's operates 38 locations in Texas, with its headquarters situated in the Near Northwest district of Houston. The original location was founded in San Antonio, Texas, by Robert Luby.
