Daniel K Akaha State Veterans Home

The Daniel Kahikina Akaka State Veterans Home, located in Kapolei, Hawaii, is a state-of-the-art facility dedicated to providing comprehensive care and support to veterans, their spouses, and Gold Star parents. Officially opened on March 26, 2025, this 120-bed, 130,000-square-foot home is situated on a seven-acre property in the city of Kapolei on the island of Oʻahu.

This facility offers a range of services tailored to meet the diverse needs of its residents. These include long-term and short-term rehabilitation stays, skilled nursing care, memory care, hospice services, and specialized programs for individuals with Alzheimer's and dementia. The home also provides long-term respite care to support veterans and their families.

The Daniel Kahikina Akaka State Veterans Home is designed with the comfort and well-being of its residents in mind. It features single-occupancy rooms equipped with private baths and a rehabilitation gym.

On-site therapy services include physical, occupational, and speech therapy. Additional amenities include communal dining areas, landscaped gardens, and wellness programs aimed at enhancing the quality of life for veterans.

Namesake and Legacy

The home is named in honor of the late Senator Daniel Kahikina Akaka, a distinguished Army veteran and the first Native Hawaiian elected to Congress. Senator Akaka was a steadfast advocate for veterans' rights and recognition, and his legacy continues to inspire the mission of this facility.

Management and Statewide Context

Operated by Ohana Pacific Health, this facility is the largest post-acute care and rehabilitation service center in Hawaiʻi. It is the second such facility in the state, following the Yukio Okutsu State Veterans Home in Hilo, which opened in 2007.

A third State Veterans Home is planned for Maui, reflecting the state's commitment to expanding care options for veterans across the islands.
