Non-Profit Executive Director Duties & Responsibilities
- Research funding sources, oversee the development of fund-raising plans and write funding proposals
- Prepare precise analyses communicating fundraising results, variances and performance trends
- Lead annual monthly and quarterly budget reviews and periodic forecast updates
- Administer the funds of the organization according to the approved budget and monitor the monthly cash flow
- Provide the Board of Directors with comprehensive, regular reports on revenues and expenditures
- Provide leadership and manage site staff
- Recruit and interview staff, providing orientation and necessary training
- Act as a spokesperson for the organization alongside the Chair of the Board
- Establish good working relationships and collaborative arrangements with community groups, funders, politicians and other organizations
- Approve major systems implementations related to cost and inventory control
- Ensure secure storage of personnel, client, donor and volunteer files, maintaining privacy and confidentiality
- Establish a positive, healthy and safe work environment in accordance with legislation and regulations
Non-Profit Executive Director Experience Requirements & Skills
- Demonstrated work experience as a Non-Profit Executive Director or in a similar role
- Knowledge of volunteer recruitment strategies for organizational success
- Strong financial acumen and ability to construct financial forecasting documents for the board of directors
- Excellence in organizational management, including coaching high-performance teams and managing budgets
- Strong marketing, public relations and fundraising experience, engaging diverse stakeholders
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
- Familiarity with federal and provincial legislation relevant to voluntary sector organizations
- Proficiency in computers and various applications, including word processing, financial management and project management
- Adaptability, flexibility and tolerance in a changing work environment
- Ethical behavior aligned with organizational values
Non-Profit Executive Director Education & Qualifications
- A minimum of a bachelor’s degree, possession of an MBA is preferred
