1. Industry Performance and Openings

Weak Performance Continues in US Hotel Industry in Early June 2025

Performance across the US Hotel Industry was soft in the week ending 7 June 2025, with a notable decline on Sunday. Despite gradual improvements throughout the week, RevPAR (Revenue per Available Room) fell by 3.2% primarily due to occupancy dropping 2.2 percentage points.

Weekend performance was resilient with RevPAR nearly flat but weekdays saw the largest declines with up to -9.2% in Economy hotels. In top markets, Luxury Hotels performed better while other chain scales experienced significant weekday losses affected by conference shifts and delayed summer vacations.

  • Global RevPAR increased by 3.2% mainly driven by ADR
  • Japan's demand rose 4.7% with RevPAR up nearly 40%
  • US booking pace improves short-term with June occupancy higher than last year
  • Upcoming week crucial for understanding the summer travel outlook

Despite recent declines, booking trends offer reassurance that travel demand remains steady. However, slowing TSA screenings and economic uncertainties hint at a potential slowdown for the peak summer season.
