- Transport and accompany individuals to appointments, outings and shopping
- Provide emotional support and companionship to individuals under care
- Assist with daily living activities, including personal hygiene and meal preparation
- Organize and participate in social activities tailored to individual preferences
- Maintain accurate and detailed documentation of client progress
- Ensure the safety and well-being of clients in all aspects of their daily lives
- Foster a positive and inclusive environment to enhance the quality of life for clients
- Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to address the unique needs of each individual
- Administer medications and monitor health conditions as required
- Support clients in developing and enhancing their life skills
- Respond calmly and effectively to crisis situations, implementing appropriate interventions
Direct Support Professional Experience & Skills
- Proven experience in providing direct support to individuals with developmental disabilities
- Demonstrated ability to implement and adapt care plans based on individual needs
- Competence in administering medications according to established guidelines
- Experience in aiding the implementation of treatments, training programs and behavioral plans
- Proficient documentation skills, including the ability to maintain accurate and detailed client records
- Familiarity with organizing and facilitating social activities to encourage community participation
- Ability to perform physical tasks such as bending, stooping, pushing, pulling, reaching, sitting and walking for extended periods
- Skilled in crisis intervention, remaining calm and implementing appropriate strategies
- Commitment to maintaining a clean and organized living environment
- Adaptability and flexibility to perform other responsibilities and duties as assigned by supervisors
- Inherent qualities of authentic empathy and deep compassion
- Patient and understanding demeanor
Direct Support Professional Education & Qualifications
- 18 years of age or older
- Successful clearance of background checks
- High school diploma or equivalent
- First Aid and CPR certification
- Knowledge of and adherence to local and state regulations governing direct support services
- Completion of specialized training programs related to developmental disabilities or related fields
