Job Requirements
- A high school diploma or GED
- Three months of hands-on experience in food preparation in a Commissary/Kitchen facility
- Valid Texas Class "C" driver's license or equivalent from another state

Job Duties
- Prepare a variety of animal diets
- Prepare regular and special diets each day, following diet card and supervisor instructions exactly
- Adjust diet preparation in response to approved diet changes
- Follow safe thawing protocols for meat and whole prey items
- Work closely with zoo keepers to keep diet sheets and logs up to date
- Measure, cut, weigh, and count items to obtain correct amounts of all individual diet items and supplements
- Maintain and store food supplies
- Receive and properly store food items including dry goods, produce, frozen meat/fish/poultry, frozen rodents, and feeder insects
- Check delivered items against orders and packing slips
- Stock bins and rotate feed
- Ensure quality control, proper rotation, and washing of all produce
- Clean and sanitize work area including walls, floors, countertops, and refrigeration equipment
- Wash and store dishes and tools
- Maintain sanitary food preparation areas
- Provide assistance to other zoo staff and the public
- Work courteously and professionally with Commissary coworkers, other Zoo staff, volunteers and guests
- Keep clear and accurate records
