Job Description

The Navy Youth Sports and Fitness (YSF) program is designed to support Navy families by providing rewarding and structured opportunities for youth to engage in physical activities while fostering positive lifestyle behaviors. Operated under the umbrella of Child and Youth Programs (CYP), YSF programs are crucial in balancing the competing demands of family life and military readiness. Job Requirements

  • A minimum of a 4-year degree in youth recreation, physical education, youth development, or related field preferred
  • 3 years of full-time experience working with children and/or youth
  • Or a master’s degree in a related field with at least 1-year professional experience working with children or youth
  • Or experience demonstrating ability to plan, organize, coordinate, supervise, or evaluate youth fitness, recreation, and sports programs along with 3 years of full-time experience working with children and/or youth
  • Must provide a high school diploma or equivalent if degree is not awarded or if possessing DoD approved certificates or CDA/MSA credentials

Job Qualifications

  • Specialized experience in youth fitness, recreation, and sports programs or education appropriate to the position
  • Knowledge of youth recreational sports and fitness concepts, theories, and principles
  • Familiarity with various NAYS national standards for youth fitness and sports activities
  • Understanding of Federal and State laws on child abuse and neglect prevention
  • Experience planning and conducting military YSF programs
  • Skill in organizing and utilizing program resources efficiently
  • Ability to supervise and interact with youth and teens
  • Competency in emergency response and crisis management
  • Strong record-keeping and written and oral communication skills

Job Duties

  • Plan, organize, and provide supervised year-round youth sports and fitness programs
  • Develop and implement social, recreational, and educational program components
  • Ensure compliance with national youth sports and fitness standards
  • Monitor and safeguard the well-being and safety of program participants
  • Supervise program staff and coordinate resource utilization effectively
  • Maintain accurate records and prepare reports
  • Communicate effectively with youth, families, and military personnel
