Job Requirements

  • Currently enrolled at CSU, Chico with minimum 6 units for undergraduate or 4 units for graduate student
  • minimum of 3 months lifeguarding experience
  • hold current lifeguarding certification
  • CPR for the Professional Rescuer or equivalent certification
  • AED certification
  • First Aid certification
  • ability to swim 300 yards continuously
  • ability to tread water for 2 minutes without using arms
  • ability to retrieve a brick from the bottom of pool in 1 minute 40 seconds
  • must provide original documents for Form I-9 verification
  • willingness to complete new hire documentation
  • available for flexible scheduling up to 20 hours per week
  • ability to work outdoors and in variable noise and weather conditions
  • ability to lift and move objects up to 50 lbs
  • ability to stand and walk for extended periods

Job Qualifications

  • Minimum of 3 months lifeguarding experience
  • currently enrolled in 6 units for undergraduate or 4 units for graduate at CSU, Chico
  • Lifeguarding certification - American Red Cross preferred
  • CPR for the Professional Rescuer or equivalent
  • AED certification
  • First Aid certification
  • Title 22 First Aid for Public Safety Personnel may be acquired within 1 year of employment
  • ability to perform aquatic rescues according to level of training
  • ability to respond calmly and effectively to emergencies
  • ability to enforce and explain rules politely and assertively
  • ability to maintain focus for extended periods
  • effective communication skills
  • ability to exercise judgment for customer safety and welcome experience
  • willingness to attend monthly in-service trainings

Job Duties

  • Provide active surveillance and implement preventative lifeguarding techniques
  • actively enforce facility rules and regulations to maintain safety and prevent accidents or loss of life
  • execute rescues of persons in distress and administer first aid and resuscitation as necessary
  • activate emergency response system and complete accident or incident reports
  • complete records as required
  • take responsibility for documenting accidents and applications of first aid
  • set up or replace equipment including placement of lane lines, covering pool and spa, positioning furniture
  • perform basic daily maintenance such as vacuuming, brushing, and hosing deck
  • assist with and officiate special events
  • perform other assigned duties
