Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- prior retail or customer service experience preferred
- ability to operate check stand equipment such as cash registers, scanners and scales
- comply with all state and local laws related to food safety and sales certifications such as TAM card
- possess required food handlers or tobacco and alcohol sales certifications where applicable
- available to work varied shifts including nights, weekends and holidays
- excellent customer service and communication skills
- ability to lift and maneuver objects frequently up to 20 lbs and occasionally up to 50 lbs
- strong manual dexterity and observation skills
- willingness to work in a fast-paced and physically demanding environment
- maintain composure and tact in challenging customer interactions

- mental alertness and basic math skills to ensure accurate transaction handling
- ability to navigate high stress situations and manage customer volume
- must be 16 years of age or older
Job Duties
- Seek opportunities to welcome, engage, serve and thank customers
- maintain an atmosphere of friendly, enthusiastic customer service with an emphasis on taking care of the customer
- operate check stand equipment such as cash registers, scanners and scales to process customer orders using two aisles
- engage in suggestive selling and other sales techniques
- process monetary transactions including cash, checks, gift certificates, food stamps, coupons and refunds adhering to cash handling and lane accountability policies
- maintain knowledge of current product location, monitor UPC codes and ensure proper pricing
- maintain clean, neat and properly stocked check stand and ensure a safe and secure work area
- stock, price and rotate merchandise
- may be assigned to multi-station self-checkout lanes or customer service counter as needed
- perform other duties as assigned
- follow all state and federal laws concerning the sale of restricted or regulated items such as tobacco and alcohol
- adhere to USDA Food Stamp or WIC voucher procedures
- frequently move within SCO area to expedite transactions, maintain attentive presence and keep area clear of safety hazards
- initiate and engage contact with customers at self-checkout kiosks
- respond to SCO stations to review, address and clear alerts or errors with customer transactions
- monitor multiple simultaneous transactions in a fast-paced setting
- actively engage with customers to assist in transactions, ensure accuracy and limit shrinkage
- maintain a high level of awareness of self-checkout areas and customers
- prioritize safety by addressing or reporting concerns
