Job Requirements

- Must meet physical fitness levels and pass medical exams for wildland fire personnel
- Selected applicants must submit to urinalysis and pass drug tests
- Must pass pre-employment physical and work capacity test
- May require completion of a one year probationary period
- Must possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license
- Driver’s License required and GSA Form 3607 must be completed during onboarding
Job Qualifications
- One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS/GW-09 grade level for current or former federal employees
- One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS/GW-10 grade level for non-federal employees
- Experience assisting as an aviation specialist supporting natural resources and fire management operations
- Experience in oversight, budget planning, development, execution, and monitoring of aviation operations
- Experience advising managers on firefighting aircraft requirements
- Experience with general aviation policies for federal and state agencies
- Experience identifying and providing training for personnel using aviation resources
- Experience participating in aircraft incident investigations
- Experience coordinating with FAA or other agency officials for aviation activities
- Experience working as a Contracting Officer’s Representative on aviation contracts
- Must meet physical fitness standards and pass medical exams for wildland fire personnel
Job Duties
- Responsible for the unit’s Aviation Program including oversight, budget planning, development, execution, and monitoring of all aviation operations
- Serves as liaison for interagency coordination and use of aircraft on multi-agency emergency incidents, mutual aid responses, and military operations
- Develops Unit Aviation Plans, manuals, handbooks, and instructional materials and conducts workshops for field and interagency offices
- Manages the unit’s Aviation Safety and Training Program and conducts training needs analysis, sponsorship, and coordination as an Office of Aircraft Services certified Trainer
- Ensures dispatch center operations comply with accident and incident response measures
- Follows up on corrective actions issued in bureau safety reporting system records
- Participates in investigations for aircraft incidents and accidents
- Exercises delegated supervisory authorities including assigning and reviewing work, planning workloads, setting priorities, and scheduling
