Job Requirements

  • Hours worked per week must be stated for each season and position held
  • Must meet specialized work experience or education requirements for GW-05 or GW-06 levels
  • Submission of legible transcripts for education qualification including school name credit hours course level major and grade-point average or class ranking
  • Foreign education must be evaluated for U.S. equivalency
  • Ability to work long irregular hours often during fire operations
  • Willingness to work in extreme weather temperatures and climactic conditions
  • Physical ability to stand walk lift carry and operate hand and power tools
  • Use of safety equipment including hearing eye protection and high visibility clothing
  • Compliance with NWCG performance standards

Job Qualifications

  • One year of specialized work experience equivalent to GW GS-04 level duties
  • Experience with general airtanker base operations or clerical administrative tasks
  • Proficiency in inputting data and using computer software programs
  • Successful completion of a 4-year bachelor's degree in Fire Science Fire Training Fire Technology or related field
  • Ability to perform duties at the GW GS-05 level including safe ramp operations and communication
  • Experience operating two-way radios for communication
  • Capability to compile operational data and reports
  • Capacity to perform an NWCG position
  • Strong alertness and safety awareness in hazardous environments

Job Duties

  • Ensuring ramp operations are conducted safely including parking loading and movement around aircraft
  • Operating two-way radios to communicate with ramp personnel aircraft and dispatch centers
  • Compiling data for daily summaries and yearly reports
  • Supporting base set-up tear down and maintenance by lifting and carrying equipment and operating tools
  • Monitoring and alertness for hazardous conditions and personnel safety during operations
  • Preparing reports and flight records in an office setting
  • Adhering to safety protocols including the use of hearing eye protection and high visibility clothing
