Job Requirements

  • hours worked per week must be stated for each season and position held in resume
  • specialized experience must include specific duties performed
  • meet qualification requirements by announcement closing date
  • provide transcripts if qualifying based on education
  • foreign education credentials must be evaluated for equivalency
  • physical ability to work long irregular hours
  • willingness to work outdoors in high temperatures and around moving aircraft
  • use and compliance with safety equipment including hearing and eye protection
  • ability to lift and carry heavy equipment
  • hold NWCG position certification

Job Qualifications

  • high school diploma or equivalent
  • one year of specialized work experience equivalent to GW/GS-04 level for GW-05
  • one year of specialized work experience equivalent to GW/GS-05 level for GW-06
  • completion of a four-year degree in fire science, fire technology, or related field is preferred
  • ability to operate communication equipment
  • proficiency in data entry and computer software
  • understanding of safety protocols in a high-risk environment
  • capacity to work irregular hours and in physically demanding conditions

Job Duties

  • manage ramp operations to ensure safety of aircraft and personnel
  • operate two-way radios for communication with aircraft and dispatch centers
  • compile data for daily reports and yearly summaries
  • perform clerical and administrative duties related to airtanker base operations
  • set up, maintain, and tear down base equipment and facilities
  • lift and carry heavy materials and operate hand and power tools
  • monitor safety conditions around moving aircraft and equipment
