Job Requirements
- must be a US citizen or US national
- males born after 12/31/1959 must be selective service registered or exempt
- subject to satisfactory adjudication of background investigation and/or fingerprint check
- direct deposit required by law
- must be 18 years of age
- successfully pass E-Verify employment verification
- valid state driver’s license may be required
- commercial driver’s license (CDL) may be required
- pre-appointment and random drug testing required
- physical or medical examination may be required
- willingness to live and work in remote, volatile, and unpredictable locations
- occasional overnight travel required
- position designated under federal secondary firefighter retirement provisions
- prior wildland firefighting experience required

- appointment may be temporary and not-to-exceed one year
Job Qualifications
- one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least GW-4 grade level in federal service or equivalent
- successful completion of a 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university with major study in fire science, fire training, fire technology or related fields
- combination of education and experience
- experience directly related to wildland fire suppression, preparedness, prevention, monitoring, and hazardous fuels reduction
- experience servicing and repairing airtanker equipment or inspecting, checking, and servicing accessories such as pumps, water lines, tanks, reels, or pump power plants
Job Duties
- Operate complex airtanker equipment systems with precise synchronization and calibration
- perform aviation and ground support activities including servicing batch mixers, tanks, pumps, valves, and hoses
- mix, store, inspect, test, and deliver fire retardants to specified standards
- assist in parking and launching firefighting aircraft to and from base
- participate in airtanker hot loading and simultaneous loading operations
- compute, compile, and summarize data for Forest Service reports and records
