Job Qualifications

  • high school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • one year food experience in a supervisory capacity preferred
  • ability to read, write, speak and understand English
  • knowledge of food procedures
  • leadership ability and willingness to work harmoniously with others
  • ability to follow oral and written instructions
  • patience, tact, cheerful disposition and enthusiasm
  • ability to seek out new methods and incorporate them
  • knowledge of safety and sanitation practices

Job Duties

  • process diet changes and new diets received from nursing services
  • perform administrative requirements such as completing necessary forms and reports
  • inspect special diet trays to assure correct diet is served
  • coordinate food and nutrition services with other departments
  • assist in establishing food service production line to assure meals are prepared on time
  • ensure menus are maintained and filed per policies
  • review menus prior to food preparation
  • assist in standardizing work methods
  • ensure all food procedures are followed per policies
  • assume authority and accountability of cook
  • sweep and mop floors as directed
  • prepare food according to recipes, planned menus, and special diet orders
  • prepare and serve bedtime snacks
  • serve palatable and appetizing meals
  • prepare and serve substitute foods to residents who refuse foods served
  • provide appropriate equipment and utensils with meal trays
  • serve food according to portion control procedures
  • report occupational exposures to certified dietary manager
  • attend mandatory in-service training and workshops
  • assist/direct cleaning duties per policies
  • dispose of food and waste correctly
  • prepare food per sanitary regulations
  • follow infection prevention policies
  • ensure safety regulations are always followed
  • maintain clean and safe department
  • report accidents, hazardous conditions, and missing safety data sheets
  • assist and recommend equipment and supply needs
  • inventory and store incoming supplies
  • assist in food preparation for special meals and events
  • make authorized food substitutions
  • assist in timely meal service
