  • must meet general health requirements including medical and physical examinations

  • must be able to push, pull, move, or lift minimum 25 pounds to minimum 5 feet height and transport for minimum distance of 50 feet

Job Qualifications

  • No minimum education required
  • one year food experience in a supervisory capacity in hospital or related medical facility preferred
  • ability to cook a variety of foods in large quantities
  • ability to read, write, speak, and understand English
  • capability to make independent decisions when needed
  • skilled in dealing tactfully with personnel, residents, and visitors
  • knowledgeable of food procedures

Job Duties

  • Process diet changes and new diets received from nursing services
  • perform administrative requirements such as completing necessary forms and reports
  • inspect special diet trays to assure correct diet is served to residents
  • coordinate food and nutrition services with other departments
  • assist in establishing a food service production line to ensure meals are prepared on time
  • ensure menus are maintained and filed according to facility policies
  • review menus prior to food preparation
  • assist in standardizing work methods
  • ensure all food procedures follow facility policies
  • assume responsibility and accountability of cook
  • sweep and mop floors as directed
  • prepare food according to standardized recipes, menus, and special diet orders
  • prepare and serve bedtime snacks
  • prepare and serve meals that are palatable and appetizing
  • prepare and serve substitute foods when residents refuse served foods
  • ensure appropriate equipment and utensils are provided with resident meals
  • serve food following established portion control procedures
  • report occupational exposures to the Certified Dietary Manager
  • attend mandatory in-service training and workshops
  • assist/direct daily cleaning duties
  • dispose of food and waste according to policies
  • prepare food following sanitary regulations
  • follow infection prevention policies
  • ensure safety regulations are followed
  • maintain clean and safe department conditions
  • report accidents/incidents and hazardous conditions
  • assist in maintaining organized food storage areas
  • recommend equipment and supply needs
  • assist in inventorying and storing food and supplies
  • assist in food preparation for special meals and parties
  • make authorized food substitutions
  • assist and serve meals as needed
  • work in dining rooms and kitchen areas
  • communicate with medical, nursing staff, and other supervisors
  • work beyond normal hours when necessary
  • attend continuing education programs
  • be mindful of safety risks and health exposures
  • maintain liaison with other department directors
  • comply with safety and infection control protocols
