Job Requirements

  • Personal relationship with Jesus Christ
  • Subscribe to UGM Statement of Faith and Core Values
  • Willingness to lead and participate in Bible study, prayer, devotions and sharing the Gospel
  • Previous cooking experience
  • Experience working with homeless or in recovery preferred
  • Ability to work in changing kitchen conditions including exposure to heat, steam, chemicals
  • Ability to hear, see, taste, smell and speak clearly
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs
  • Ability to stand, bend, reach, and move between facilities
  • Fitness to work ten hour-plus shifts
  • Willingness to model servant-leadership and uphold ministry standards
  • Must pass required certifications and background check

Job Qualifications

  • Grounded and committed Christian
  • Able and willing to model servant-leadership
  • Active member of the body of Christ consistent with UGM's Statement of Purpose, Vision and Faith
  • Strong sense of calling to minister through culinary skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills including written, verbal and instructional
  • Intermediate computer skills with MS Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Experience building, developing and leading culinary teams
  • Availability to work weekends, holidays, special events and various UGM locations
  • Trustworthy, teachable and reliable
  • Model appropriate boundaries and strong work ethic
  • Valid Driver's License and insurable by UGM insurance
  • Ability to pass ServSafe Certification, Food Handlers Card, Second Harvest and Forklift Certification
  • Criminal background check required

Job Duties

  • Supervise volunteers, community service workers and clients on UGM's culture and core values
  • Adhere to all organizational policies and procedures
  • Inform the Production Chef of all critical culinary operations
  • Maintain health department, 2nd Harvest, OSHA standards
  • Communicate weekly with volunteers, community service workers and clients regarding scheduling and unplanned changes
  • Participate in UGM Outcome Based Management Process including SWOTS, SMART goals and one-on-ones
  • Carry out relevant training for handling food, non-food products, and donations
  • Wear protective equipment and follow safety protocol throughout workspaces
  • Secure kitchens, storage areas and coolers to prevent theft
  • Attend culinary operations and required UGM meetings
  • Uphold UGM Genesis Process and Grace Process principles
  • Demonstrate a teachable spirit and willingness to learn
  • Oversee food preparation, production, quantity, inventory, and portion control
  • Taste and review produced food during meal periods
  • Perform shift roll calls and manage scheduling changes
  • Supervise weekly menus, recipes, pull, prep and production sheets
  • Ensure dietary and allergy needs are met
  • Execute Banquet Event Orders and special meal production
  • Count meals served for Monthly Meal Report
  • Keep storage areas, freezers and coolers cleaned and sanitized
  • Submit maintenance requests as needed
  • Collaborate with Production Chef on prep/production needs of facilities and ministries
  • Maintain dining rooms during service and non-service periods
  • Report inventory needs to Warehouse Manager
  • Maintain exterior work environments including sweeping, pressure washing, trash and snow removal
  • Document all client-related concerns by end of shift
  • Assist with volunteer training and communication
  • Maintain volunteer logs
  • Ensure volunteers wear appropriate clothing and nametags
  • Assist in client Work Therapy compliance
  • Collaborate with Rescue, Recovery, and Site teams on client adherence
